Cartier Santos Dumont 1576 ‘CPCP’

The First.

The rich history of the Dumont never fails to amaze us. It all started with the aviator Alberto Santos Dumont. Alberto, a good friend of Louis Cartier was a famous pilot who came to him for a solution. Alberto needed to track the time while flying, but this didn’t go smoothly with a pocket watch. This is where the Santos Dumont founds its origins.

The Cartier Santos Dumont is the first wristwatch used as a pilots watch. This icon got introduced in 1904 in Paris, but Cartier dived into its archive to enlight this beautiful piece again. This time they re-introduced the Dumont with their ‘CPCP’ collection which they produced from 1998 until 2008 in limited quantities.

The Dumont 1576 houses the well-known and highly appraised Frédéric Piguet 21 manual wind caliber. The thinnest watch movement made from 1925 throughout the 2000’s. The movement is something we need to mention, but let’s talk about what truly excites us. The design features.

The extra-plate case design due to the iconic FP21 movement is an amazing example of the craftsmanship that was needed when creating this piece. The Guilloché finish is just something else. We have encountered a lot of Guilloché finishes, but it feels like there’s nobody doing it like Cartier.

Unpolished, serviced and ready to compliment your wrist. Move quick, because this one moves quick.
