Cartier Tank ‘Basculante’ 2390

Brand: Cartier

Iconic since 1932

The Tank Basculante made its debut in 1932, at a time when affluent individuals sought timepieces capable of enduring activities like polo and tennis without compromising their integrity.

Named after its tilting function, the Tank Basculante boasts a mechanism enabling its face to be flipped, safeguarding the crystal and dial during strenuous activities. This mechanism, ingeniously designed, allows the watch to rotate 360 degrees, serving as a versatile timepiece that can even function as a miniature table clock when rested upright. Despite its ingenuity, the Basculante never entered regular production during the interwar period, eventually finding its place in the archives until its reintroduction in the 1990s.

The ref. 2390, a delightful iteration from the mid-2000s, showcases a stainless steel case measuring 25 x 38.5 mm. Its transparent sapphire back offers a clear view of the manual winding movement when the case is tilted. The white dial features intricate guilloché engraving, complemented by Cartier’s iconic painted black Roman numerals and elegant blue sword hands.
