The Smaller Details
Besides the iconic pie pan dial with sunburst finish, the folded jubilee and the plexiglas, the Sigma Datejusts have a little more history to them. During the quartz crisis that started late sixties/early seventies, swiss watch brands had to come up with new ways to make their mechanical watches more appealing than their much less expensive quartz competitors.
Their plans were to increase both the perceived and the intrinsic value of the watch my making the appliques (hours markers and crown) and the hands from precious metals as well. It was more of a marketing stunt which was successful. A sigma dial can be recognized immediately by the two Greek Symbols that enclose the T SWISS T.
It’s always a pleasure to offer a well-preserved Datejust, because we believe that it’s the most versatile watch ever. Although I must say it’s always different to offer a ‘Sigma’ Datejust with a grey dial. Just pure art.
