Rolex Submariner 5513 Glossy

Just like the GMT Master 1675, the 5513 was produced for quite some time. To be precise, from 1962 till 1990. “Well, if they produced it for 28 years it must not be that special”

It is though, it was produced alongside the 5512 as a cheaper variant which wasn’t a certified chronometer. While your diving, the minutes matter way more rather than the seconds so a 5513 would suffice. If you are a pilot or captain on a transatlantic route, the seconds do matter if you need the time for an exact location using a sextant.

Back to why the 5513 still is a special time piece. It came with tons of different dial configurations and a very few were spec’d for military use so to find exact copies of one another can be more difficult than you think.

This one is a later model that dates back to 1987. It comes with a glossy dial and white gold applied hour markers and a more modern case but still features the acrylic glass and older style bezel.
